Ochre Dawn, on behalf of the Barossa Hills Fleurieu Local Health Network, is seeking Expressions of Interest from:
- Peramangk artists
- First Nations artists with a demonstrated connection to Peramangk Country
Individual artists, emerging artists and collaborative artist teams are warmly encouraged to apply.
About the project:
The New Mount Barker Hospital is being developed on Peramangk Country. A collection of original artworks will be commissioned to help create a welcoming environment that supports cultural connection, belonging and healing, grounded in Peramangk identity, culture and connection to Country.
The overarching theme for the artwork is: A Healthy Peramangk Community
Artworks may explore:
- Strength, resilience and wellbeing
- Connection to Country, culture and community
- Healing journeys within a healthcare setting
- A future-focused vision grounded in culture
- Family and the importance of strong beginnings
We are seeking artworks that can contribute to a connected story across the hospital, rather than a series of unrelated pieces.
Artwork opportunities:
Artwork is being considered for several areas throughout the hospital, including:
- Main Entrance and central public walkway
- Aboriginal Health Hub
- Birthing Suite
- Paediatric Ward
- Perforated External Screens
Artists may work across a range of mediums, including painting, mural work, photography and other original artworks that can be digitised and adapted for use on walls, glazing, wayfinding elements and external screens.
A collaborative model involving both male and female artists is preferred, supporting cultural balance, broad representation and shared storytelling.
Who can apply?
Priority will be given to Peramangk artists, reflecting the cultural authority of the Peramangk Aboriginal Corporation and the importance of local cultural representation.
First Nations artists with a demonstrated connection to Peramangk Country may also be considered. Further cultural consultation and collaboration with a nominated Peramangk cultural representative may be required.
Both established and emerging artists are encouraged to express interest. Artists may apply individually or as part of a collaborative team.

You will be asked to provide:
- Your name and contact details
- Information about your cultural background and connection to Peramangk Country
- A short artist biography
- Examples of previous work or a link to your portfolio, website or social media
- An outline of your proposed artistic approach, preferred medium and the story or themes you may explore
- The hospital areas or artwork opportunities that most interest you
- Your availability to meet the project timeframes
- Whether you are interested in working collaboratively with other artists
A draft artwork concept is not required at this stage.

Selection process
Expressions of Interest will be reviewed by a panel including representatives of the Peramangk Aboriginal Corporation.
Shortlisted artists may be invited to meet with the project team and representatives of the Peramangk Aboriginal Corporation to discuss their experience, ideas and proposed approach.
Artist fees and licensing
Fees will be negotiated with the selected artist or artists, taking into account the artwork type, scale, complexity, development requirements and agreed licensing arrangements.
The successful artist or artists will work with Ochre Dawn and the project team to develop the final artwork, storytelling and files required for fabrication or installation.
